The Joy of giving is about serving the community and the wider world.
I do this by fundraising for various causes that are close to my heart in the UK.
I serve the local and international communities by donating time and gifting items that bring joy to others.
Welcome
“When asked ‘what’s the biggest mistake we make in life?’
The Buddha replied:
The biggest mistake is you think you have time…
Time is free, but it’s priceless.
You can’t own it, but you can use it.
You can’t keep it, but you can spend it…
And once it’s lost, you can never get it back.”
2020 was an unforgettable year that many of us will remember for the rest of our lives.
On one hand it tough, and full of painful loss, heartache, and loneliness. Being bombarded with depressing news in the media whilst being isolated from loved ones was especially hard.
On the other hand, we saw a side of human nature that brought out the best in people. We saw neighbour’s helping each other, people (including children) funding raising for causes they believed in, and on-line communities set up through social media, that helped people to keep in touch and share ideas and support through YouTube and Zoom. Socialising also moved on-line, and we saw lockdown quiz nights, birthday parties for kids, and people sharing virtual cups of tea with self-isolating loved ones, or having a drink with friends living abroad.
As UK lockdown was announced on March 23rd, people stepped up to help others through it. We witnessed Joe Wicks become the nation’s PE teacher with his Zoom app downloaded 2.13m times around the world, and yoga guru Adriene Mishler gained more than 7m subscribers as she helped people to stay mindful and strong. Mental health apps also jumped up by a third as the crisis took hold.
I feel we are very lucky to have technology that has helped us to keep in touch with those we love. Even five years ago a lot of this technology may not have existed or been as good. It has helped us to stay together, work from home, and feel a sense of belonging.
Look forward to seeing you all again soon.
